Amulet

An amulet is some sort of object worn to ward of evil. For some people, their amulet could be garlic (vampires), a necklace, bracelet, shoes, etc. Personally, my amulet is the cross. Not because I'm supersticious and I can't go anywhere without it, but I believe in what it stands for. Even if I do not physically wear one, in my spirit and mind I know that the Lord is always with me to defend me from evil. This reminds me of a bible verse: "If God is for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:31.

Ankh
This is an Ankh, also known as the Egyptian cross or the symbol of life.

Cylinder Seals

Cylinder Seals

Everywhere you go, you see images portraying someone's identity, someone's company, someone's life. Image seems to be one of the strongest ways to communicate authenticity. These cylinder seals during the Mesopotamian times portray a picture story and are theme-driven based on the creator's belief on religion, society, or sociological views. The seals allowed room for creativity, giving the creator to express their beliefs in a concrete manner.

For example, we are all familiar with Starbuck's brand image whenever we have a cup of joe. Just like today, seals in different forms, expressions, and materials are being used to imply a message. For Starbuck's, their seal promises valuable customer service and fine-tasting drinks of all sorts.

Lion Man

Lion Human

According to the history of the Lion Human piece, it represents a hierarchy; a higher order of thinking. The artifact shows that the artists gave human characteristics to a lion, which points to the possibility of animals having the ability to think and act as humans do. Today this type of figure may even point to the idea of men having dominant characteristics that are associated with a lion. Such as fierce, strong, and well you know, manly. Every man has a lion hiding in them somewhere.

For some reason this also reminds me of domesticated animals today. We as pet owners tend to treat our animals as if they are humans; buying them dog sweaters, beds, and even going as far as buying specialized bags to carry them around in (Paris Hilton is guilty for this one). That was off tangent but it was just a thought.

5 Things

Each image displayed portrays an important part of my life. This Taylor 312CE follows me to different places of worship. Whether it be on stage inside church on Sundays, a small gathering in a home, or in the secret corner of my room.

The cross is a simple symbol of my faith in Jesus Christ. He's been there for me through everything and it's to Him do I devote my life to.

I'm a fan of sports and enjoy playing a variety of them but volleyball is my all time favorite.

I make it an effort to wake up with a fresh word from the bible everyday. It helps me get through the day...especially if it's one of those days you'd rather not have.

The mic can be a scary place. Say the wrong thing and the whole world will know. But I've grown to find it a place of change; a place where people can hear hope.

That's me in a nutshell.
